Menu of Letters 1860s

George Moore was 13 years old at the time this letter was written.

He later admitted in ’’Notes and Sensations” (Hawk, 30 September 1890) that he was unable to translate Latin into English. His critically acclaimed English translation of Longus’ Daphnis and Chloe (1924) was made from a XVII century French translation.
