Letters of George Moore

Main Menu

A 5-pence British postage stamp issued in 1887 for Queen Victoria’s Jubilee and used until the end of the century (Wikimedia Commons). George Moore placed stamps like this on his letters from Sussex in the 1880s and London in the 1890s. There were similar designs and denominations for different letter weights, sizes and distances of delivery. Most of his letters were handwritten
on one sheet folded in half to form four pages; or typewritten on one sheet to form two pages front and back. His letters survive mostly without envelopes.

Census of Previously Published Letters

Use this menu to open a census of letters written by George Moore, curated by others, and published elsewhere. The census contains metadata harvested from those publications but not transcriptions, other than opening words. It is updated continuously.

The census is a tool for curators and scholars rather than general readers. I use it to check my work on GMi. Others can use it to find data that are not reproduced here. They can also post comments for me and the community.
