Aet. 48, to a journalist. Maurice Moore’s third exposé on war fighting in South Africa was entitled “No Quarter!” in the Freeman’s Journal, Dublin (15 January 1901).
In “George Moore, W. T. Stead, and the Boer War” (University of Mississippi Studies in English, v. III, 1962) Joseph Baylen reported that George Moore offered Maurice’s third exposé to the Daily Chronicle before the Freeman’s Journal.
A fragment was reprinted in The Times of London (18 January 1901), W. T. Stead’s Review of Reviews (February 1901), and Edward Cartwright’s South African News of Cape Town (6 February 1901).
The publication in Cape Town triggered a purge of the press, in which Cartwright was sent to prison for a year for defamatory libel of the British high command.
