George Moore Interactive LLC (GMi) publishes historic texts and images (“assets”) that exist in the public domain and other assets with permission of copyright owners.

Texts

We obtain most texts from digital scans of printed publications, either made by ourselves or downloaded from Google Books, the Internet Archive, the British Library and other repositories.

We then convert scans into Google Docs, replacing diverse, archaic, print formats with a uniform digital format that is better suited to display on screens and store in databases.

The objectives of conversion are to turn historic texts and images into active texts and images that are eminently:

  • Readable
  • Searchable
  • Reducible
  • Movable
  • Suitable for commenting, tagging and linking
  • Ready for textual analysis and machine learning

Making texts active doesn’t remove them from the public domain; nor does it give GMi a proprietary interest in the texts.

Nonetheless our editorial and technical enhancements, that endow active texts with behavioral properties, are protected by GMi copyright.

You may view and reproduce our active texts but may not reproduce our editorial and technical enhancements without first obtaining our written permission to do so. Ask if you’re not sure what you may reproduce; or simply revert to source materials in the public domain.

Images

Historic images we publish likewise continue in the public domain. When possible we acknowledge individuals or institutions who make their images available; and we obtain permission to publish images on our websites.

GMi users may view and reproduce legacy images they find on our websites but may not reproduce any image whose rights are controlled by another individual or organization, as indicated herein, without first obtaining their permission to do so.

GMi respects and protects intellectual property rights and has not knowingly violated the rights of any copyright owner. Our policies outline steps we will promptly take to correct inadvertent infringement of copyright. Please review the policies for details.
