The Coming of Gabrielle

1923, aet. 71

Ink on paper

Signed Favier [?] Wilson. Captioned Matinee. St. James’s [theatre]. George Moore full-length in profile turned to his right, kneeling and leaning back on his heels, hands clasped in supplication, a quill behind his left ear, labeled George Moore in the lower right part of the picture. Another full-length figure labeled Athene Seyler (actress) floating with outstretched hands in the center of the picture, looking down at Moore. A pedestaled incense burner in the lower left.

Published in the Referee (London, 22 July 1923). Photocopy provided to me by Edwin Gilcher. Presumably owned by the Edwin Gilcher Papers, Artizona State University Library, USA.

The artist’s name “Favier Wilson” may be incorrectly transcribed (it is barely legible in the photocopy and no artist of that name has been identified).
