At Home

Circa 1924, aet. 72

15 x 11 in; 38.1 x 28 cm

Graphite, black crayon, and brown ink on off-white paper

Signed John Wheatley. Half length seated in an upholstered chair turned slightly to his right, left arm on an armrest. The pose is similar to The Red Dressing Gown (circa 1920), by Henry Tonks. The artist left England for South Africa in 1925 so I dated this undated picture before that.

Owned by the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford University, England.
