Who is Thomas Fisher Unwin?

Thomas Fisher Unwin (1848-1935) was George Moore’s London publisher starting in the late 1890s. He published two novels, a book of short stories, and a play.

Unwin’s association with Moore coincided with his author’s indefatigable and costly urge to revise text after manuscript was printed.

The Unwin titles with their first years of publication are Evelyn Innes (1898); The Bending of the Bough (1900); Sister Teresa (1901); The Untilled Field (1903).

65 years later, George Moore in Transition: Letters to T. Fisher Unwin and Lena Milman, 1894-1910 (Detroit: Wayne State University Press, 1968) documented aspects of their association.
