The Tauchnitz Collection of British and American Authors included thousands of authorized English language books for sale on the continent. Tauchnitz editions gave copyright protection to living British and American authors in Europe.
Christian Karl Bernhard Tauchnitz (1841-1921) was the son and successor of Christian Bernhard Tauchnitz (1816-1895), who inaugurated the Collection in 1841.
Tauchnitz published sixteen paperback titles of George Moore, some also in hard covers, some having unique bibliographical value. The titles with their first years of publication are: Esther Waters (1894); Celibates (1895); Evelyn Innes (1898); Sister Teresa (1901); The Untilled Field (1903); Confessions of a Young Man (1905); The Lake (1906); Memoirs of My Dead Life (1906); Spring Days (1912); Hail and Farewell: Ave (1912); Hail and Farewell: Salve (1912); Hail and Farewell: Vale (1914); Muslin (1920); The Brook Kerith (1920); The Coming of Gabrielle (1922); Celibate Lives (1927)
