Spring Days (1888) is George Moore’s fifth novel. It was mostly set in the coastal countryside in and near Southwick, Sussex, where he lived when he wrote the novel. Spring Days is the bittersweet story of Frank Escott, a man of leisure and amateur artist who futilely pined after two young women. Members of the affluent Brookes family, the ingénue Lizzie Baker, and provincial citizens of Southwick complete an ensemble cast of characters.
