Half-length turned to his right, his head turned to his left.

This self-portrait is contemporary with the artist’s caricature of George Moore captioned “Man of the Day” in Vanity Fair. Walter Sickert was a frequent subject of praise in Moore’s art criticism of the 1890s. He famously painted Moore as an “intoxicated mummy” in 1891.
