George Moore wrote from Netherton Hall in 1922, when it was the home of playwright, producer and actor Harley Granville-Barker (1877–1946). Harley was a friendly foil to some of George’s aspirations for literary theater.

A year after visiting Netherton Hall, George dedicated the second edition of The Apostle (1923) to Harley Granville-Barker.
