FORTIS CADERE CEDERE NON POTEST may be translated from the Latin as The Brave May Fall But Never Yield; “halla na murac” may be translated from the Irish as the hall of the Moors.

According to Joseph Hone in The Moores of Moore Hall (1939), the roof of Moore Hall was encircled by a stone balustrade. In the centre directly above the front door a slab was carved with this motto; the motto is still faintly visible today in the burned out ruins of the big house.
