←Menu of Letters of George Moore
In 1897, George Moore continued writing his novel Evelyn Innes (1898), a self-conscious departure from the social realism of Esther Waters (1894) and psychological churn of Celibates (1895). His love of painting was somewhat eclipsed by his passion for music, in particular the “new” music of Richard Wagner and and the “old” music of Arnold Dolmetsch. He published little in periodicals and was relatively free from controversy, for a change. The seeds of his participation in the Irish Literary Revival were planted at this time. There are 47 extant letters of George Moore from the year 1897.
