←Menu of Letters of George Moore
In 1895, George Moore continued living in King’s Bench Walk, the Temple, and became a member of the gentleman’s club Boodle’s (nominated by his friend Sir William Eden). In the afterglow of his novel Esther Waters (1894), he published the less popular Celibates (1895), a collection of three stories. He mainly researched and started writing his duology Evelyn Innes (1898) and Sister Theresa. (1901), testaments of his strong passion for music. His other strong passion of 1895 was his adulterous affair with Lady Cunard, which began before her loveless marriage in April and continued after it. Her daughter Nancy Cunard was conceived in June; there can be little doubt that George was Nancy’s father. There are 61 extant letters of George Moore from the year 1895.
