Le Val Changis was the estate of author Édouard Dujardin, George Moore’s friend since the 1880s. George wrote from here in 1905, the year he dedicated The Lake to his friend, and continued visiting until 1925. Their correspondence 1886-1922 was published in 1929.
When I visited the site fifty years later it was a ruin, though frescoes were faintly visible on walls of the ground floor. Marie Dujardin gave me photographs of herself with Moore and her late husband at Le Val Changis (see Iconography).
