George Moore full-length in profile turned to his left on the left side of the picture, seated on a sofa next to Lady Cunard who looks at him; in a richly furnished room in Lady Cunard’s house in Grosvenor Square, London. According to Professor Kenneth McConkey, the bronze sculpture on the right side of the picture is by Paul Manship; paintings on the walls have still to be identified.

Provenance, exhibition and publication history are described in an essay about this picture by Professor McConkey in Sotheby’s (London) catalog for a sale of effects of Sir Rupert Hart-Davis on 18 May 2000 (lot 113).
