George Moore wrote from Laleham House, Staines, a few miles from London, in December 1899. It was the home of George Bingham, 4th Earl of Lucan, whose ancient family attainted the peerage in Castlebar, County Mayo, in the vicinity of Ashbook and Moore Hall which were created a century later.
