Maurice Moore’s first letter to George Moore about war fighting in South Africa was published in London as a broadsheet by the journalist William Thomas Stead.

The letter was published anonymously and signed “A British Officer in the Field.” Introduced by Stead and followed by his Confirmatory Evidence, the broadsheet ran to almost 13,000 words on four closely printed pages.
