Who is Hildegarde Hawthorne?

Hildegarde Hawthorne (1871-1952) was a biographer of several eminent American men of letters including her grandfather, the novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne. She also wrote fantasy fiction and poetry.

George Moore enjoyed affectionate correspondence with her for years. She published insightful reviews of his autobiographical trilogy Hail and Farewell: Salve (1912) in the New York Times and Vale (1914) also in the New York Times.
