Half length, turned slightly to his left, holding a palette in his right hand and a brush in his left hand. Depicting the artist in his studio as George Moore would have observed him while visiting and being painted around this time.

Manet was George Moore’s friend, inspiration and idol beginning in Paris in the late 1870s; also see his portraits of GM elsewhere in this Iconography.

Exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Musées d’Orsay et de l’Orangerie, Paris (2023-2024); published in their Manet/Degas exhibition catalog.
