Half-length, turned slightly to his right. This self-portrait was painted around the time Blanche illustrated the cover of George Moore’s Confessions of a Young Man (1888); see his portraits of Moore elsewhere in this Iconography. In addition to painting portraits, including several modernist authors, Blanche published two volumes of autobiography in which Moore and other writers are remembered.
