A Drama in Muslin (1886) is George Moore’s third novel and first book on an Irish theme. Set mostly in rural County Galway and the city of Dublin in the early 1880s, it is a coming of age story of two sisters, Alice and Olive Barton, and three of their friends. Daughters and mothers are foregrounded; men play incidental roles; the Land War in Ireland fills the background. All 131,300 words are presented here in 22 linear chapters grouped into three “books.” A Drama in Muslin was published in one volume.
