George Moore lived at 92 Victoria Street from 1896 until 1901, while writing Evelyn Innes and Sister Teresa. He rented one of four spacious apartments in his building for £150 a year, an upgrade from his previous home in The Temple.

Victoria Street was (and is) a bustling commercial thoroughfare; at the time it was lined with large new residential buildings. All of the buildings have since been redeveloped.
