Aet. 46, to a London publisher. Charles Conder illustrated Ernest Dowson’s translations of The Girl With the Golden Eyes (1896) by Honoré de Balzac and The Story of Beauty and the Beast (1898) by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, both published by Leonard Smithers. His art also appeared in the Yellow Book, Savoy, and other magazines. In 1900 George Moore purchased one of Conder’s painted amber fans for his collection.
Evelyn Innes was never illustrated, nor were the covers decorated. (In December 1896 George asked Aubrey Beardsley to illustrate Esther Waters.)
