George Moore wrote from an apartment he shared at this address in November 1877. By then he was writing poetry and plays and had terminated his training as an artist. His apartment was a short walk from the Café de la Nouvelle Athènes.

Lacking a vintage photograph, my placeholder on this page is a picture taken in 2016 that shows an upscale but not artistocratic building of the correct age. The blue doorway is the one that Moore passed through.

In his imaginative memoirs (Confessions of a Young Man and Hail and Farewell – Ave) George Moore gave his address at this time as 76 Rue de la Tour des Dames. I found no corroborating evidence that he lived in that street, where there was no building No. 76.
