Aet. 47, to an Irish poet and playwright. The play discussed in this letter is George Moore’s The Bending of the Bough, a revision with W. B. Yeats of Edward Martyn’s manuscript play later published as The Tale of a Town.
The play was produced for the Irish Literary Theatre at Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre on 20 February 1900; publication as a book by T. Fisher Unwin in London followed on 21 February 1900. Martyn’s pair of plays The Tale of a Town and An Enchanted Sea (1902) was also published by Unwin.
