Aet. 48, to his sister-in-law (1862-1946), the wife of Maurice Moore and mother of two boys: Maurice (1894-1965) and Ulick (1896-1918).

The Handcocks of Carantrilla Park, near Tuam in County Galway were Protestant Anglo-Irish gentry with unionist political sympathies. Evelyn remained Church of Ireland after her marriage.

In addition to home schooling, Mary Colum reported in Life and the Dream (1947) that the children received part of their Irish language instruction in a Dublin school directed by Padraic Pearse. George Moore’s visits to monitor his nephews’ progress were disruptive.
