Aet. 47, to a writer and editor associated with Lippincott’s Monthly Magazine in Philadelphia. George Moore addressed her as “Mrs. Morris,” mistaking the sound of her professional moniker Mrs. Morse.
He may have approached her because, though Protestant, she was the pious author of religious fiction and could be expected to appreciate the subject of his Catholic duology.
George’s asking price of £500 for serialization was comparatively high and not accepted. However Lippincott’s published the first American edition of Sister Teresa in August 1901. They did not publish the revised Evelyn Innes, possibly because the rights were not available from Appleton.
