Aet. 46, to an Irish poet and dramatist. Despite George Moore’s advice, Yeats expanded The Countess Cathleen to four acts for the Irish Literary Theatre in 1899. The “sowlths” (souls of poor people sold to merchants from Hell) and “vishes” (wishes that demons can exploit) remained in the play with spelling normalized.
Depending on how his works are counted, Yeats completed up to 30 plays during his career including collaborations. The Shadowy Waters (poetry) came out in 1900.
Grania was the title of a Ulick Dean opera in Evelyn Innes; in real life, the play Diarmuid and Grania was written with George and completed in 1901.
