Aet. 46, to an Irish poet and dramatist. George Moore may have mistakenly believed that Yeats’s unpublished prose narrative, The Speckled Bird, was a novel.

The first French translation of Yeats’s blank-verse play was La Comtesse Cathleen, translated by Georges Polti (Paris: Mercure de France, 1899). Fauré and Polti probably knew each other.

W.B. Yeats mostly lived at 18 Woburn Buildings, Euston Road, London W.C., though George believed he was out of town (probably staying with Lady Gregory in Ireland). The Wind Among the Reeds was first published in London by Elkin Mathews in early spring 1899.
