Aet. 46, to the London publisher of Evelyn Innes. Gabriela Cunninghame Graham’s two-volume biography Santa Teresa (1894) was published around the time George Moore embarked on his duology of Evelyn Innes and Sister Teresa. It eschewed Catholic miracles to portray a more human and practical Teresa of Ávila.

George translated passages from Teresa’s Book of Her Life and The Way of Perfection in Chapter 35 of Evelyn Innes, in order to clarify Evelyn’s interest in the celibate life of a convent.

Robert Bontine Cunninghame-Grahame later became an interlocutor in Chapter 12 of Conversations in Ebury Street (1924) where he discussed French literature with George.
