Aet. 46, to a musician and instrument maker whose letter was probably an appreciation of George Moore’s novel Evelyn Innes. The character of Evelyn’s father was inspired by Arnold Dolmetsch; Evelyn herself may have been inspired by Arnold’s daughter Hélène (1878-1924).
Richard Wagner’s complete Der Ring des Nibelungen was performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in May and June 1898, conducted by Anton Seidl.
