Aet. 46, to a socialite, patron of the arts and activist. The first two cycles of Richard Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung) — Das Rheingold (The Rhinegold) and Die Walküre (The Valkyrie) — were performed in May 1898 at Covent Garden in London.
