Aet. 44, to an unnamed French journalist who was researching George Moore for an article. In “Literature and Morals” (Century Magazine, May 1919) George Moore recalled Boutet de Monvel as one of his friends at Académie Julian in the 1870s. Other friends named in the article were Renouf, Delicate Ducet, Lizzie Gardner (betrothed to William-Adolphe Bouguereau) and an American named Chadwick. Lewis Welden Hawkins was chief among his friends at that time but was not named in the article.
