The second edition of Modern Painting was dated 1897 on the title page; according to Edwin Gilcher it was published on 23 September 1896. I was unable to find a digitized copy of the 1897 (1896) second edition but did find a digitized copy of the 1898 edition which I used as source material. Sheets from the 1897 (1896) second edition were used in the 1898 edition.
Gilcher reported that chapters of the first edition in 1893 are the same as corresponding chapters in the second edition, so only new chapters in the second edition are presented in the 1896 folder. Chapters of the first edition are in the 1893 folder.
