Aet. 42, to a Dutch translator. Translations of Vain Fortune into Dutch and French have not been seen by bibliographers (to date). The novel was first published by Henry and Co. in October 1891; Scribner’s revised edition came out in April 1892; Walter Scott published a further revised edition in March 1895.
