Menu of Letters 1895

Aet. 43, to his brother. “29 September 1896” is inscribed on the manuscript. The chimney repairs were at Moore Hall, which George Moore owned and Maurice looked after.

George wrote in “My Own Funeral” (Lippincott’s Magazine, November 1901) that he wanted his ashes scattered on Hampstead Heath. (In 1933 his ashes were buried on an island in Lough Carra in front of Moore Hall.)

Maurice did not receive the government appointment he sought with George’s help, but continued his military service for years to come.

George’s work-in-progress was Evelyn Innes (1898).
