Aet. 43, to a cultivated society hostess, the sister of composer Ethel Smyth. Her husband Charles Edward Hunter (1852-1917) inherited a fortune in coal mining. Their three daughters were Kathleen, Phyllis and Sylvia.

Wagner’s revised Tannhäuser was revived at the Opéra de Paris in May 1895 and again at Covent Garden in July 1895.
