Aet. 43, to his brother. In late June 1895, Gerald Balfour was appointed by his uncle Lord Salisbury as the Chief Secretary for Ireland, a position his brother Arthur held 1887-1891. Arthur was known as ’’Bloody Balfour” for his firm response to land agitation.
