Aet. 43, to a woman of letters. Lena Milman’s article would be published as “A Few Notes upon Mr. James” (Yellow Book, October 1895).

George Moore’s appreciation of Henry James, whom he regarded as a great though imperfect writer, an author of exceptional strength lacking courage, was included in the Confessions of a Young Man (Chapter 10). In Avowals (Chapter 9) he remarked that James “was the first English writer I knew whom I could look upon as an artist.” They first met at the home of a mutual friend in 1883.
