Beginning 17 May 1894 the Grafton Gallery held an exhibition of portraits of women selected from private collections by a committee of female aristocrats. On Wednesday, 6 June, numerous titled, influential and artistic people gathered there for a reception given by the Duchess of Rutland.
Mrs. Alexander may be Florence Jane Théleur, the prominent wife of actor George Alexander.
