Aet. 41, to a Scottish drama critic. David Gordon was a partner in Tyne Publishing (and printing) in 1882, when it was acquired by Walter Scott, the publisher of Esther Waters in March 1894. Archer’s Theatrical World for 1893 was published by Walter Scott in February 1894; the review in the Daily Chronicle (6 February 1894) was unsigned. Henry Norman at the Daily Chronicle had years earlier reviewed George Moore’s A Modern Lover in the Fortnightly Review (December 1883). The third edition of Children of the Ghetto came out in 1893.
