Aet 41, to a woman of letters and host of a notable salon. George Moore submitted her translation of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novel Poor Folk to publisher T. Fisher Unwin. He was meanwhile reviewing proofs of his forthcoming novel Esther Waters (1894) for publisher Walter Scott. Under the title of “Passages from the Life of a Workgirl,” drafts of a few chapters had been serialized in the Pall Mall Gazette in October 1893.
