Aet. 41, to a woman of letters and host of a notable salon. George Moore submitted her translation of Poor Folk (1894) to Elkin Mathews and John Lane. Meanwhile he corrected proofs of his new novel Esther Waters (1894). Exhausted, he contributed nothing to the Speaker in the last three weeks of October and the first three weeks of November 1893.
