Aet. 41, to a French novelist who visited England for the first time on 20 September 1893. On 21 September he addressed the Institute of Journalists, who made him an honorary member, and on 28 September he addressed the Author’s Club at a dinner given in his honor by the Lord Mayor. 3,000 guests attended. Neither the speeches nor an article by Zola appeared in the Fortnightly Review. According to Ernest Vizetelly, George Moore joined Zola on an excursion to Greenwich.
