Aet. 40, to a Scottish drama critic. George Moore’s play The Strike at Arlingford was panned in the Daily Telegraph and The Times, both on 22 February 1893. William Archer praised it as “a very remarkable dramatic experiment” in the World (1 March 1893).
Henry Arthur Jones’s The Dancing Girl (1891), Stuart Ogilvie’s Hypatia (1893), and Arthur Wing Pinero’s The Profligate (1889) received rave reviews in the Telegraph and Times.
Ibsen’s Master Builder, translated by Edumnd Gosse and William Archer, opened at the Trafalgar Square Theatre (20 February 1893). Archer had written about the play in the Pall Mall Gazette (12 December 1892).
