1892-03-01 to Maurice Moore

Aet. 40, to his brother. On Friday, 4 March 1892, The Minister’s Call by Arthur Symons and George Moore was staged by the Independent Theatre Society. Augustus Moore had campaigned against the Society and the idea of nonprofit theatre in his newsweekly, the Hawk.

It appears that the Moore siblings had an understanding that “the value of the house” (at Moore Hall) would be divided equally. Meaning unclear.

As the eldest son, George Moore inherited Moore Hall upon the death of his father in 1870. His father had previously invested £5,000 in Moore Hall for the equal benefit of children other than his eldest son.

On 16 March 1883, Augustus Moore sold his quarter share of the income from this £5,000 investment to a Rev. William Maturin for £500. A few months later on 24 October 1883, Augustus repurchased his share and again sold it to James William Fair, a member of the Routledge family.

Thus it appears that Augustus sold his inheritance in 1883.
