An English translation of Hedda Gabler by Edmund Gosse was published by Heinemann in January 1891; another translation by William Archer was published by Walter Scott in February 1891. Gosse’s translation was staged at the Vaudeville Theatre on 20 April and reviewed by Archer in the World (29 April 1891). George Moore’s new book Impressions and Opinions was published in March 1891. Members of the Committee of the Independent Theatre were J.T. Grein, Frank Harris, C.W. Jarvis, Julia Frankau, Cecil Raleigh and George Moore.
