1891-01-23 to William Archer

Menu of Letters 1891

Aet. 38, to a Scottish drama critic who wrote a weekly column for the World. William Archer savaged his erstwhile collaborator Edmund Gosse in the Pall Mall Gazette (Saturday, 24 January 1891). Both men were avid promoters of Henrik Ibsen. Henry Arthur Jones’s play The Dancing Girl premiered at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket in London on 15 January 1891. George Moore was waiting for Archer to read his play, The Strike at Arlingford.
