Aet. 38, to Katherine Bradley and Edith Cooper who wrote together under the pseudonym Michael Field. Their new play was The Tragic Mary (1890); previously they wrote William Rufus (1885) and other plays, some with titles of uncertain pronunciation. In “The New Theatre Libre” (Hawk, 8 July 1890), George Moore listed William Rufus seventh of ten plays for a first season of London’s emerging Independent Theatre Society. In their journals Works and Days (1933), Michael Field recalled meeting George at Louise Chandler Moulton’s house.
